FDI – a bright perspective(27/12/2006)

As reported by Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Planning and Investment, the newly licensed foreign direct investment (FDI) in October 2006 rises up by over 60% as compared to the same period last year – the peak in 2006. At the same time, additionally increased capital for production expansion in October also doubles in comparison with that in September. As a result, total newly registered capital, including capital for new projects and additionally increased capital, in October was 6.485 billion USD, up by 41.4% as compared to the same period. This indicates that perspective for attracting FDI by Vietnam has been increasingly bright both for new investments, actually implemented capital and production and business performance by enterprises.

November 7th 2007, an important milestone when Vietnam officially become the member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), closing 11 years of persevering bilateral and multilateral negotiations. This event opens up new opportunities for our country’s development. However, there will be in addition, numerous challenges requiring great efforts for overcoming. FDI enterprises with export development strategy(6/10/2006)
        The overall direction set forth in the Project for export development for the period 2006 – 2010 formulated recently by the Ministry of Trade is to continue attracting strong participation by foreign direct investment (FDI) sector to improve production capacity and technology transfer to domestic commodity producers and exporters.   FDI enterprises will continue to gradually increase their contribution to Vietnam’s exports in this period. It is estimated that by 2010, FDI enterprises will contribute about 67% to the nationwide exports.

FDI luring to the south focal economic area(2/10/2006)
        Foreign direct investment (FDI), considered as an important economic sector in our economy, has recorded a relatively high and sustainable growth rate, greatly contributing to our economic development and economic structural transformation. Over the past 20 years since the promulgation of the Law on Foreign Investment and policies on opening up the economy and integration into the world economy, as of the end of June 2006, Vietnam has attracted over 7,000 FDI projects with a total registered capital of nearly 68.9 billion USD, including 36 billion USD of actually implemented and ongoing investment.

Chan may - Lang co economic zone - various preferences for investors(2/10/2006)
        Realizing the Decision No 04/2006/QĐ-TTg by the Prime Minister on the establishment of Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee in coordination with Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and Vietnam Chamber for Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held the seminar on the 15th August 2006 in Hanoi  for introducing  Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone and  promoting investment to Thua Thien- Hue province. Over 300 domestic and foreign enterprises as well as representatives from concerned ministries, sectors and localities attended the seminar.

Hanoi Planning and Investment Authority has just conducted a survey to collect the opinions from investors and government officials on the Project on building Hanoi Financial Banking Center (FBC) in the New Urban Area to the west of the West Lake. We made an interview with Mr.  Nguyen Quoc Trieu- Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee on the plan to turn the New Urban Area into a “Wall Street” of Hanoi.

Realizing renovation in international relations with the guideline: “be ready to make friends with all nations and territories in the world”, our Party and Government have given great attention to external economic relations. The Law on Foreign Investment was promulgated by the Government in 1987 and came into effect in 1988. Thanks to the Law on Foreign investment and the increasingly compatible and flexible open-door policies advancing towards international cooperation and integration, foreign investment sector has recorded extremely remarkable achievements over the past 20 years: Attraction of over 6,500 FDI projects with a total capital of nearly USD 60 billion; of which the majority are ongoing ones with a total implemented capital of over USD 36 billion and about 3,000 foreign direct investment enterprises have been operating in an efficient manner.
